Individuals that meet the eligibility requirements can fill out and submit an online application through the website. The length of your participation in the program depends on the pathway you choose. The Trades Pathway is eleven weeks in length. The Automotive and Certified Nursing Assistant Pathways are twenty weeks in length.
There are currently three career pathways offered through NMJCA's partnership with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) and UA Local 412, which is a union that covers territory in New Mexico and Texas. UA Local 412 provides a pathway where individuals can earn their Multi-Craft Core certification as a part of their Apprenticeship Readiness Program. During their certification, individuals will learn the basics of Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Welding, Electrical, and HVAC. Certifications through CNM include Automotive Service Fundamentals and Certified Nursing Assistant.
Yes, while participating in the NM Job ChalleNGe Academy, you will be issued the clothing and accessories for four uniforms: Physical Training Uniform, Associate Uniform, Class A Uniform, and Pathway Uniform. The New Mexico Job ChalleNGe Academy will cover the cost for related expenses as they pertain to each career pathway.
After successfully completing the Orientation Phase and meeting the requirements to earn personal cell phone use, you will be permitted to use your cell phone.
The three different pathways operate with varying schedules during each day of the week. However, all participants will conduct main events together. A basic timeline for each day looks like this: 0500 - Wake Up, 0510 - Physical Training, 0600 - Personal Hygiene/Barracks Maintenance, 0630 - Breakfast, 0700-2000 - Classes/Study Time, 2000 - Lights Out.
The New Mexico Job ChalleNGe Academy has barracks; however, there are no bunk beds. There is increased privacy and space for each Associate. The Associate furniture separates the individual living spaces and includes a desk, a chair, a bed, and a lockable wardrobe with drawers.
